Rules & Info
Men's, Women's & Regular Coed Doubles Tourney Rules & Format

All regular doubles tournaments will adhere to the Official United States Volleyball Rules where applicable and for areas that are generally of concern, please see the following:

  • Setting -- Sets that go over the net are only legal if they have been released perpendicular to the body of the setter, i.e., no side sets or dumps over the net. This does not necessarily mean the set is perpendicular to the net, just to the body of the person setting.
  • Overhead passing -- No lifts are allowed. Double contacts on hard-driven balls (typically spikes or serves) are allowed. Hands do not have to be together, the main thing is that the touch may not be a lift.
  • Scoring -- Rally scoring will be used.
  • Net serves -- net serves are allowed.
  • Serve Toss -- you may drop your toss once per point being played.
  • Dinks -- no open handed dinks allowed, only closed hand or hits where there is an attempt at snap in the wrist are allowed.
  • Disagreements -- referee teams make the final call on all disagreements, but all players are strongly encouraged to exhibit good sportsmanship at all times. When in doubt, replay.

Tournament Advancement & Brackets

All tournament brackets are single elimination, best of 3 games, where games are played to 15 with rally scoring.

  • For 4 and 5 team pools, top 2 teams from each pool advance to tournament play.
  • For 6 and 7 team pools, top 3 or 4 teams advance to the tournament. It depends on the number of total pools playing that day.
  • In the event of a tie for breaking out of pool, a single game to 15, rally scoring tie-breaker will determine which team advances.
  • Point-spreads will only be used to determine seeding and any byes in an odd-number of teams tie-breaker.
